Fire pits and fireplaces that send the smoke up

Smoke, Placement, And Rules

A fire feature lives or dies on draft and placement.

Nobody has ever called us to say their fire pit is not pretty enough. The calls are always the same thing: the smoke comes at us, there is only one good side to sit on, or we used it twice and stopped.

With a fireplace that is a draft problem. The firebox opening has to be matched to the flue and the chimney has to be tall enough to pull properly, or it pushes smoke back into the seating every time the wind shifts. With an open pit it is placement: prevailing wind, how far back the seating sits, and what is hanging overhead. A pit tucked against the house or set under a low tree canopy is a pit nobody uses.

“People do not abandon a fire pit because of how it looks.”

Local rules shape it too. Davidson County prohibits burning leaves, brush, and yard debris countywide, and permits recreational fires only at a reasonable size and duration. In practice that means clean firewood and nothing else in a wood-burning pit. Gas avoids the whole question, shuts off in a second, and is the only kind of fire feature we will put on or beside a composite deck, because board manufacturers put limits on heat exposure.

What We Build

Fire features we design and build

The choice between these three is mostly about how often you want to use it and how much effort you want it to take.

Gas Fire Pits & Fire Tables

Gas Fire Pits & Fire Tables

On in ten seconds, off in one, and no smoke, ash, or wood to store. This is what gets used on a Tuesday. It needs a gas line run to the spot, which is the whole reason to decide on it before the patio goes down rather than after.

Wood-Burning Fire Pits

The crackle, the smell, and the reason people sit outside in the first place. More work per use and more thought about placement, since smoke has to have somewhere to go and the seating has to sit clear of it.

Outdoor Fireplaces

Outdoor Fireplaces

A firebox and chimney with real presence, and the option to build it into a seat wall or a pavilion. It throws heat in one direction, which makes it the better choice for a patio you want to use in November.

Gas or wood, honestly?

Gas gets used ten times more often, because nobody splits kindling on a weeknight. Wood is better when the fire is the event rather than the background. If you are talking yourself into wood because it costs less to build, be honest about how often you will actually light it.

A fire feature is what extends your season.

Nashville gives you two shoulder seasons that are too cool to sit outside and too mild to waste. A fire feature is what turns those months into usable evenings, and it is the single thing most likely to get a patio used after the middle of October.

We are a local crew that designs and builds fire pits and outdoor fireplaces into patios, seat walls, and decks across Middle Tennessee, with one point of contact from your first call through the final walkthrough. No subcontractor shuffle, no surprise line items.
