Stone comes out of the ground, not out of a mold.

Why Stone Takes Longer

Stone comes out of the ground, not out of a mold.

A concrete paver is the same size every single time. Natural stone is not. Thickness varies inside one pallet, edges are irregular, and color shifts from crate to crate. There is no pattern to repeat, so every piece has to be chosen, cut where needed, and bedded to sit level with the ones around it.

That is where the craft lives, and it is also where a rushed crew shows. Hurried stonework gives you wide, uneven joints, lips you catch a toe on, and obvious color stripes where someone worked straight through one pallet before opening the next. We pull from several pallets at once so the color blends, and each piece gets bedded to the surface plane rather than laid and hoped for.

“Stonework is mostly deciding which piece goes where.”

There are two ways to set it, and they are not interchangeable. Dry-laid on a compacted base flexes with our clay and lets a single piece be lifted and reset years later. Mortar-set over a concrete slab gives tighter joints and a flatter surface, but the slab underneath has to be sound and draining, or a freeze-thaw winter will find the weak spot. We tell you which one your yard calls for at the walkthrough.

What We Build

Stone options we design and install

The three stones we use most in Middle Tennessee, and what each one is actually good at.

Flagstone

Flagstone

Irregular pieces with natural broken edges in warm tans, browns, and greys. It looks like it has always been there, which is why it works so well on wooded lots and around older homes. The most forgiving choice for a patio with curves in it.

Travertine

Light in color and noticeably cooler underfoot than dark stone in full sun, which is why it ends up around so many pools. Comes in consistent cut sizes, so joints are tight and the surface reads calm rather than busy.

Bluestone

Bluestone

Sawn to consistent dimensions with clean edges and a deep blue-grey tone. The most formal of the three, and the best match for the brick and stone-front homes across Belle Meade, Brentwood, and Franklin.

Stone or pavers, honestly?

Pavers cost less per square foot, install faster, and are easier to repair years down the road. Stone costs more and takes longer because of the hand fitting, and in return you get a surface with no repeat in it. If budget is the deciding factor, we will point you at pavers and not feel bad about it.

Stone reads differently from six feet away.

Up close you notice the material. From across the yard you notice the joints, the color blend, and whether the surface sits flat. Those three things are all installation, not product, and they are the reason two patios built from the same pallet of stone can look a decade apart in quality.

We are a local crew that designs and installs natural stone patios matched to Middle Tennessee soil and drainage, with one point of contact from your first call through the final walkthrough. No subcontractor shuffle, no surprise line items.
