We design and install interlocking concrete and clay paver patios across Nashville and the surrounding counties, set on an excavated base compacted in layers and sized for the clay soil it has to sit on.

Paver patios built on a base that holds

What Goes Under A Paver Patio
Pavers do not sink. The base under them sinks.
A paver patio is not one surface. It is a few thousand separate units held in place by friction, joint sand, and edge restraint. That is the advantage: it flexes with ground movement instead of cracking the way a slab does, and a single paver can be lifted and reset. All of it depends on the layers you never see.
Our clay is what makes that hard. It swells when it holds water and shrinks when it dries out, which is a full cycle every Nashville year. So we lay geotextile fabric over the clay to keep it from working its way up into the stone, then build the aggregate base in two to four inch lifts and compact each one before the next goes down. A plate compactor only densifies the top few inches. Dump six inches at once and the bottom half stays loose, which is a low spot waiting to happen.
“Every dip in a paver patio started as a shortcut you could not see.”
Then one inch of washed concrete sand, screeded to depth. Not stone dust, not screenings, and never used to hide a low base. Pavers go down tight, edge restraint locks the perimeter so the field cannot creep, polymeric sand gets swept into the joints and set, and the whole surface slopes away from your foundation. That is the part we get right first.
What We Build
Paver options we design and install
All three sit on the same base. What changes is the look, the price, and how the surface handles water.
Concrete Pavers

The widest range of colors, shapes, and patterns, and the most cost-effective way to cover a large area. Modern lines hold color well and give you options from tumbled and rustic to sharp and contemporary.
Clay Brick Pavers

The color is fired into the clay, not applied to the surface, so it does not fade out. Clay brick suits the brick and stone-front homes common across Belle Meade, 12 South, and East Nashville better than anything else.
Permeable Pavers

Water drains through the joints into an open-graded stone reservoir underneath instead of running across the surface. Worth looking at on flat lots, in shaded yards that stay wet, or where runoff is already a problem.
A single paver can settle, and that is a half-day fix: lift it, correct the bedding, reset the same paver. What you do not want is a whole low area, because that means the base under it is consolidating. It is also why we spend the first days of the job on excavation and compaction rather than on laying pavers.
A patio is worth doing once.
Most of the paver patios we get called out to look at are not old. They are five or six years old, built fast on a thin base, and now they hold water in one corner and tilt toward the house. Tearing that out and starting over costs more than building it correctly did.
We are a local crew that designs and installs paver patios matched to Middle Tennessee soil and drainage, with one point of contact from your first call through the final walkthrough. No subcontractor shuffle, no surprise line items.
